Until now I have participated in 14 expeditions and have 2 planned at the moment

I find beeing on an expedition one of the best experiences in my life almost comparable to finding my wife, getting children, completing my education and start working in my first job (but not the next job!) and a few other things. But all these events happens once or a few times, whereas I seem to keep going on expeditions and until now everyone of them has been extremely revarding. Even on those expeditions where I did not summit - and that is not so few - I had the same feeling of happynesss and joy. And I have so far been so lucky as not to have any major disaters on any of my own expeditions though I have been close as on Everest in '96.

My list of exciting Himalayan expeditions include:

• Ama Dablam in the Khumbu region of Nepal, 1988
• Dhaulagiri in Central Nepal, 1991
• Broad Peak in Pakistan, 1994
• Gasherbrum I in Pakistan, 1998
• Mount Everest, Khumbu region in 1996 and 2000
• Pandra and Danga in the eastern part of Nepal, a first ascent, 2002

Apart form the Himalayas I have also been on expeditions to:

• Greenland in 1981 and 1984, not for climbing but crossing part of the ice cap and doing glaciological work
• Peru, climbing among others Huascaran and Toqllaraju, 1984
• Caucasus, climbing Elbrus, 2006
• Argentina, climbing Aconcagua, 2007

Planned expeditions are:

• Kilimanjaro, 2007
• Cho Oyu, the worlds sixth heighest mountain, expedition leader in 2008
